CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is looking for an Electromechanical Technical Engineer to join its high‑temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet R&D programme. The role focuses on developing and implementing electromechanical systems that enable the manufacture and assembly of HTS coils, integrating mechanical, electrical and control technologies in line with safety regulations and industry standards. On a daily basis the engineer will design and build dedicated coil‑winding and assembly equipment, set up instrumentation and tooling, and carry out routine maintenance of the laboratory's machinery and technical infrastructure. Responsibilities also include preparing detailed technical documentation, procedures, test reports and traceability records, coordinating component logistics and stock, initiating manufacturing requests and purchase orders, and organising or performing acceptance tests for produced components and assemblies. The position requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electro‑mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, together with hands‑on experience in designing, manufacturing, assembling and maintaining complex electromechanical equipment. Candidates must have proven experience handling quality documentation, including procedures, test and measurement reporting and component traceability. Fluency in spoken and written English or French is essential, and applicants must hold a valid driving licence. Experience with computer‑aided design (CAD) tools and prior work on superconducting systems are considered valuable assets but are not mandatory. CERN offers a tax‑free competitive salary that rises with relevant experience, 30 days of paid leave plus a two‑week annual closure, comprehensive health insurance for the employee and family, pension membership, and family allowances where applicable. A relocation package may be provided, and the limited‑duration contract (five years) can be extended up to eight years with the possibility of an indefinite position. The role is fully onsite, involves work in radiation‑controlled areas and underground installations as future needs arise, and is situated within a diverse, inclusive international community that values teamwork, accountability, flexibility and effective communication. What the role asks for: - Bachelor's degree in Electro‑mechanical Engineering or equivalent - Hands‑on experience designing and maintaining complex electromechanical equipment - Proven work with quality documentation and component traceability - Proficiency in spoken and written English or French - Valid driving licence - Experience with CAD tools for electromechanical design (nice‑to‑have) - Previous work on superconducting systems (nice‑to‑have) - Willingness to learn the second language (English/French) (nice‑to‑have)
