Postdoctoral Position in Optical Systems for Advanced Biofabrication

A postdoctoral researcher will join the Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication Laboratory at ETH Zurich, led by Prof. Marcy Zenobi‑Wong. The group, situated within the Department of Health Sciences and Technology and the Institute for Biomechanics, creates light‑driven 3‑D bioprinting methods to produce functional tissues with controlled porosity and topology. The daily work involves conceiving, modelling and assembling bespoke optical arrangements and beam‑shaping chains. The researcher will evaluate how structured light fields affect photosensitive polymers and will cooperate with bioengineers, chemists and biologists to turn photonic concepts into engineered scaffolds for regenerative‑medicine applications. Candidates must hold a doctorate in optical engineering, photonics, applied physics, electrical engineering with an optics focus, or a closely related field. Hands‑on expertise in laser beam shaping and phase modulation is required, as is the ability to write code for optical simulations and numerical analysis using Python, MATLAB or comparable tools. A solid record of scholarly output appropriate to the career stage, a genuine interest in applying optical physics to tissue‑engineering problems, strong collaborative drive and excellent English communication skills are essential. Prior work with multi‑photon polymerization, meta‑lenses, adaptable optics or non‑diffractive beam design is advantageous.
