Doctoral Student in Design and Analysis of Human-AI Systems

The role is a Doctoral Student in Design and Analysis of Human-AI Systems at ETH Zürich, within the Decision Sciences and Analytics group led by Prof. Tu Ni. The company focuses on developing AI systems, particularly those with high-stake or long-term impact decisions, and reshaping the role of humans in these systems. The research spans various fields, including clinical and legal decisions, as well as learning and education. The main day-to-day responsibilities involve analyzing AI systems to ensure efficient and reliable outcomes. This includes designing AI systems, writing and publishing high-quality research papers, and collaborating with external organizations for method evaluations. Additionally, the role involves contributing to lab responsibilities such as teaching and advising master theses. To qualify, candidates must hold or be completing a Master's degree in applied mathematics, economics, operations, or a closely related field. Strong analytical and modeling skills, particularly in optimization and mechanism design, are essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also required. Industrial experience in AI deployment is a plus. The role offers a dynamic, collaborative research environment at a renowned institution. The initial contract is for 18 months, with the potential for extension to a four- to five-year doctorate based on satisfactory progress. The starting date is negotiable, ideally within six months.
