IonQ, Inc. is the world's leading quantum‑platform provider, offering integrated solutions for computing, networking, sensing and security. Through its ID Quantique division, the company delivers quantum‑safe communications for governments, telecom operators and financial institutions worldwide. The Principal Engineer, Classical Cryptography & Architecture will join this global effort from the Geneva, Switzerland office, acting as the senior authority for the classical and hybrid cryptographic layers of the company's post‑quantum hardware‑acceleration products. In this role you will be responsible for the full architecture and implementation strategy of the classical cryptographic functions that underpin the product line. This includes designing and integrating symmetric ciphers and modes such as AES‑GCM, hash functions like SHA‑2 and SHA‑3, RSA/ECC off‑load engines, and true‑random‑number‑generation with entropy sources compliant with SP 800‑90A/B/C. You will define hybrid classical/post‑quantum schemes, key establishment, dual signatures and composite certificates, and create crypto‑agility mechanisms that let customers migrate safely to quantum‑resistant deployments. Tracking NIST and IETF guidance on hybrid key establishment (TLS 1.3, IKEv2) will be part of your remit, as will guiding RTL and software engineers, evaluating third‑party IP, and supporting FIPS 140‑3 and CAVP certification of the classical algorithm suite. You will also own the key‑management and hierarchy architecture, ensuring seamless interoperability with existing HSM, TLS and IPsec ecosystems. The position requires a strong academic background and extensive hands‑on experience. Candidates must hold a Master's or PhD in Cryptography, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, and have at least twelve years of experience building and architecting classical cryptography in real‑world products, whether in hardware, software or both. A deep command of symmetric and asymmetric primitives, modes of operation, key‑management practices and entropy generation is essential. Experience guiding cryptographic subsystems through FIPS 140‑3 and CAVP certification processes is also required. While the description does not list additional preferred skills, the role offers the chance to work on cutting‑edge quantum‑safe technologies within a multinational team that spans North America, Europe and Asia. Being based in Geneva provides proximity to a vibrant tech ecosystem and easy access to IonQ's global research and development sites. The position promises high impact on the security of future quantum‑resistant infrastructures. What the role asks for: - Master's or PhD in Cryptography, CS, EE or related field - 12 years implementing and architecting classical cryptography - Deep knowledge of symmetric and asymmetric primitives - Expertise in modes of operation and key management - Experience with true random number generation and entropy - Experience with FIPS 140‑3 certification - Experience with CAVP certification
