Senior Cocoa Derivatives Trader

Barry Callebaut is looking for a Senior Cocoa Derivatives Trader to join its Zurich hub. The firm processes cocoa supplies from Africa, Europe and worldwide, linking physical sourcing groups with market‑based risk solutions. The new trader will act as a key consultant for the sourcing teams, ensuring that exposure stays inside the limits set by the firm’s risk framework. In the day‑to‑day role the trader will execute hedging transactions, follow the approved trading mandate and GCRC rules, and share responsibility for a proprietary book. Responsibilities include delivering the trading profit‑and‑loss target, keeping a close eye on positions and any currency effects, and running strategies that involve futures, options and over‑the‑counter contracts. The position also requires handling maturing contracts, coordinating roll‑overs with brokers and physical partners, and seeking cost efficiencies. Building and nurturing relationships with internal units—sales, product trading, cocoa and chocolate divisions—and external parties such as brokers, banks, treasury and risk teams is essential. The trader will also feed market insights to the research group, flag compliance or control concerns, and support the technology tools that provide market data and position management. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics or a comparable discipline. At least two years of hands‑on experience in commodity trading, especially within terminal markets, is required. Strong quantitative and analytical abilities, fluency in written and spoken English, and solid skills with Microsoft Office are mandatory. A genuine enthusiasm for digital trading platforms, excellent organisational capacity to juggle several tasks in a rapid environment, and the ability to communicate clearly while managing stakeholder relationships are also expected. The profile should be proactive, meticulous and driven by results.
