As a European Patent Attorney at Syngenta, you will be part of the Crop Protection Patents team, based in Basel, Switzerland. Your role will involve a wide range of intellectual property (IP) activities that support the commercial goals of Syngenta Crop Protection. Your main responsibilities will include drafting, filing, and prosecuting patents related to crop protection inventions. You will also develop and implement IP strategies at global, regional, and country levels. Additionally, you will advise on freedom-to-operate matters, prepare formal opinions, and manage IP portfolios. Client counseling, including evaluating patent validity and infringement issues, and reviewing IP-related agreements, will also be part of your duties. You will collaborate closely with various departments, including R&D, Commercial, Legal, and Licensing, to ensure effective IP strategies. To qualify for this role, you must be a qualified European Patent Attorney with up to 2 years of post-qualification experience (PQE). A national patent attorney qualification or progress towards such a qualification is beneficial. A degree or equivalent experience in organic chemistry or a closely related subject is required. Fluency in English is essential. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are crucial, along with the ability to work independently and proactively identify and solve issues. Nice-to-have skills include some experience in organizing IP activities across a business unit and knowledge of life sciences.
