Process Expert MSAT USP 80%-100% (m/w/d)

Lonza's Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) unit in Visp, Switzerland, is looking for a Process Expert focused on Up‑stream Processing (USP). The position sits within one of the world's premier biotech manufacturing sites and involves guiding the hand‑over of new therapeutic processes from the lab to full‑scale production. Candidates may receive relocation support for themselves and their families if required. The day‑to‑day work centers on steering multidisciplinary groups through technology transfer, process design, scale‑up and launch at manufacturing scale. As the USP specialist, you will act as the primary liaison between customers, development teams and the plant, guaranteeing that fermentation, clarification, homogenisation and filtration steps can be reproduced reliably at commercial volume. You will employ structured transfer methods, risk‑assessment tools and change‑control procedures, keep customers informed throughout campaign set‑up and execution, and produce regular batch performance reports. When issues arise on the shop floor, you will lead investigations, ensure corrective actions meet regulatory and quality standards, and finalize all related documentation such as deviation reports, change requests, campaign summaries and technical briefs. The role requires a solid academic background and hands‑on experience. Applicants must hold a PhD or a Master's degree in a life‑science discipline such as biotechnology, biochemistry, biology, chemistry or a closely related field. At least three years of proven work as a Process Expert in upstream biopharmaceutical manufacturing is essential. Fluency in both German and English at a B2 level is mandatory, as is deep technical knowledge of fermentation, clarification, homogenisation and filtration operations.
