Field Coordinator for the CMS High-Granularity Calorimeter (EP-CMS-EC-2026-191-LD)

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is building the CMS High‑Granularity Calorimeter, a cutting‑edge particle detector that will sit about 100 m underground in the CMS experiment. As Field Coordinator you will steer the assembly, integration, testing and commissioning of the detector’s modules, known as cassettes, and oversee their installation into the 250‑tonne structure. Your daily work will involve managing the clean‑room and assembly‑hall facilities, planning and supervising interventions, and providing technical assistance to physicists, engineers and technicians. You will coordinate cassette insertion and stacking, handle mechanical and electrical connections, supervise the thermal‑screen system and conduct cold‑test campaigns both on the surface and underground. Logistics for detector components, safe transport of large structures and collaboration with CERN service groups such as HVAC and electrical infrastructure are also part of the role. The position requires a Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent experience in applied physics, mechanical engineering or a related discipline, together with a proven record of organising complex assembly and test facilities. Experience with silicon‑sensor detectors and familiarity with Merlin or MS Project are advantageous. Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory, and you must be willing to learn French.
