The Postdoctoral Position in Advanced Bioelectronic & Electrical Conversion Research is part of the Biotechnology and Bioengineering group at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of ETH Zurich in Basel. The group, led by Prof. Dr. Martin Fussenegger, focuses on pioneering projects at the intersection of synthetic biology, nanotechnology, and bioelectronics. The D-BSSE is known for its interdisciplinary approach, combining theoretical and experimental biology with advanced bioengineering, and fostering collaborations with leaders in materials science, physics, and chemistry. The main day-to-day responsibilities involve working on projects that integrate catalyst engineering, computational simulation, bioelectrode device fabrication, and electrical engineering. The goal is to develop bioelectronic interfaces that enable closed-loop programming of cellular behavior and real-time monitoring of metabolic activity. Additionally, there will be opportunities to design novel bioelectronic implants and develop specialized control software. To be considered for this role, candidates must have a background in physics, material science, or chemistry. Experience in bioelectronics or software simulations is highly desirable, as is a strong knowledge of electrochemistry and materials chemistry. Candidates should also be eager to collaborate closely with molecular biologists and bioengineers and demonstrate a strong academic record with the ambition to pursue a career in industrial R&D or entrepreneurship. Nice-to-have skills include a willingness to acquire expertise in bioelectronics or software simulations if not already possessed. The location in Basel, Switzerland, offers a unique environment for high-impact translational research with unparalleled access to academic and industrial expertise. The team at D-BSSE values diversity, sustainability, and an inclusive culture, promoting equality of opportunity. What the role asks for: - Background in physics, material science, or chemistry. - Strong knowledge of electrochemistry and materials chemistry. - Willingness to collaborate closely with molecular biologists and bioengineers. - Strong academic record with the ambition to pursue a career in industrial R&D or entrepreneurship. - Experience in bioelectronics or software simulations (nice to have).
