Regional Senior Research Officer for East and Southeast Africa, based in Kampala (Link For Internal Applicants)

IMPACT’s Research Quality Assurance Unit, based in Kampala, Uganda, is looking for a Regional Senior Research Officer to support its East and Southeast Africa portfolio. The unit safeguards research quality, ethics and compliance across IMPACT’s programmes, helping the organisation meet its 2030 strategic goal of pioneering research excellence. In this role the officer will act as the main point of contact for country teams, guiding them through every phase of research implementation and ensuring adherence to the standards set out in IMPACT’s Research Toolkit. Daily tasks include providing technical advice on quantitative study design, reviewing research proposals, data processing and analysis, and offering learning support such as training materials, webinars and guidance notes. The position also involves occasional travel to field offices and may require short‑term in‑country deployments that could account for up to a quarter of the contract time. Additionally, the officer will help streamline decentralized quality‑assurance processes, develop reviewer tools, and contribute to the collection and dissemination of lessons learned. Candidates must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as social research, economics, data science, statistics, anthropology or international development, and have at least three years of experience designing and delivering primary research programmes, preferably within humanitarian or development settings in East or Southeast Africa. Fluency in English is required, and applicants must demonstrate the technical competence to design quantitative methodologies. The posting is open only to internal applicants, runs for nine months starting September 2026 with the possibility of extension, and is described as a pilot position, meaning responsibilities and collaboration mechanisms may evolve. The role offers the chance to influence research quality across multiple countries while working from Kampala’s multi‑country hub.
