The main tasks include designing and building backend services, APIs, and data flows. The engineer will also evolve system architecture, making key decisions on database design, schema evolution, scalability, and performance. The role involves owning substantial work from problem definition through implementation, deployment, and ongoing production support, ensuring reliability and resolving complex issues. To qualify, candidates need a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong Python programming skills and experience with production backend services, APIs, or other substantial software applications are essential. Familiarity with frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django is beneficial. Candidates must demonstrate ownership of technically challenging production systems, from design to deployment and ongoing improvement, and have strong system design and engineering judgment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, along with sound software development practices, are crucial. Nice-to-have skills include experience with AI/ML capabilities in production, such as model deployment and monitoring, ML pipelines, or LLM-powered applications. Experience with cloud and platform engineering, distributed or event-driven systems, and observability and performance tuning is also valuable. Familiarity with startups, scaleups, or greenfield product development, as well as engineering software, simulation, optimisation, or building design automation, is a plus. The role is based in Zug, Switzerland, offering a dynamic and collaborative environment with a lean, highly technical team.
