BASEL OFFICE - Manager Human Resources - Scheduling Manager (Ocean)

Viking, a worldwide leader in immersive travel, operates more than a hundred vessels that sail rivers, oceans and all continents, earning top honors from major travel publications. The company is looking for a Scheduling Manager to join its crewing team at the operational hub in Basel, Switzerland, where the focus is on guaranteeing each ocean and expedition ship is staffed with the right number and blend of crew members. In this position you will plan and allocate active personnel using the MXP rotation system, keeping a long‑term perspective on crew availability. Daily duties include preserving a balanced crew roster for the assigned vessel, handling crew‑member requests when feasible, confirming that all new hires possess the paperwork required for embarkation, and coordinating with designated manning agents. You will also work closely with recruitment to forecast staffing needs, manage a pool for internal promotions and changes, nurture relationships with reputable recruiting firms across key markets, and continuously adjust scheduling requirements in line with operational demands and HR guidelines. The role demands a solid administrative background in large‑scale crew scheduling, ideally within the cruise sector, and experience as a crew purser or shore‑based crewing manager. Candidates must understand shipboard terminology, worldwide visa rules for restricted nationalities, and the MLC 2006 standards governing seafarer movement and certification. Fluency in English, strong written and oral communication, and advanced skills in Microsoft Office, MXP, PowerBI and Excel (including V‑Lookup and spreadsheet automation) are essential, as are excellent organizational abilities and a service‑oriented mindset.
