Intern P&C Underwriting Transformation - Advance with AI (4-6 months; m/f/x/d; 80-100%)

Swiss Re's Property & Casualty Underwriting Transformation unit in Zurich is looking for an intern to help turn emerging artificial‑intelligence ideas into usable tools for underwriters. The placement lasts four to six months, runs at 80‑100 % effort and follows a hybrid schedule that requires presence in the office at least three days each week. As part of a global reinsurer that tackles risks from natural disasters to cyber threats, you will join a team that blends business insight, technology and change management. During the assignment you will explore how AI and digital solutions can address real underwriting problems, gathering research and shaping use‑case proposals. You will aid pilot projects by organising tasks, monitoring milestones and recording outcomes. Business analysis work will involve spotting process inefficiencies, diagramming workflows and turning requirements into clear action items. You will also help evaluate the impact of transformation work, assist with adoption initiatives, create training material and interact with a wide range of internal partners. Preparing slide decks and written reports for diverse audiences will be a regular part of the role. The internship is open to candidates who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's programme in Business Administration, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Economics or a comparable discipline. You should possess a logical, structured approach that lets you dissect complex issues and produce evidence‑based advice. Prior exposure to AI, data handling or digital change, whether through coursework, projects, previous internships or extracurricular activities, is required. Effective communication with both technical and non‑technical parties, strong written and spoken presentation abilities, and confidence in working with quantitative and qualitative data are also essential. Additional assets include hands‑on work with generative‑AI tools, prompt engineering, automation or rapid prototyping; familiarity with analytical platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Python or SQL; experience coordinating projects and using agile methods; knowledge of the insurance or financial‑services sector and underwriting workflows; background in change‑management activities, user research, training or stakeholder liaison; and proficiency in languages beyond English for a multilingual environment.
