The IT Support Engineer role within the FAP Department's Business Computing (BC) Quality and Service Team involves delivering high-quality IT services across the organisation. CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is renowned for its groundbreaking work in science and technology, bringing together professionals from various fields to push the frontiers of knowledge. The main day-to-day responsibilities include providing second-line support for business applications, resolving user issues, and delivering technical assistance. The role also involves coordinating hardware support activities, managing computer equipment inventory, and creating technical documentation. Additionally, the engineer will contribute to IT security activities and identify opportunities to streamline and automate operational processes. To qualify for this role, candidates must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required, with a commitment to learn French. Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and have a valid driving licence. Previous experience in Windows and Mac workstation administration, hardware deployment, IT support, and service management is advantageous. Nice-to-have skills include experience with ServiceNow, technical documentation, and knowledge management. The role offers a unique opportunity to work in a diverse IT environment, collaborate with experts, and gain hands-on experience in various IT support areas. The position is based onsite at CERN, with a 40-hour work week and the possibility of working nights, Sundays, and official holidays as needed. The contract duration is 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months. What the role asks for: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. - Maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. - National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. - Valid driving licence. - Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French. - No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract. - Ability to work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required.
