PhD position: Targeted Radioenhancing Nanoparticles for Neuroblastoma (P2602)

The PhD project, hosted by the University of Basel's Swiss Nanoscience Institute (SNI), aims to create ultrasmall hafnium‑oxide nanoparticles that can be injected intravenously to boost radiotherapy for high‑risk neuroblastoma, a pediatric cancer with limited therapeutic options. You will design and fine‑tune nanoparticles for systemic delivery, optimise surface chemistry to achieve long circulation and tumour targeting, and evaluate their performance in neuroblastoma organoid models. The work bridges nanochemistry and translational cancer research, with pre‑clinical testing carried out in physiologically relevant 3‑D systems. The position requires a university degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, together with hands‑on experience either in nanoparticle synthesis or in biochemical/biological research. Candidates should be eager to explore both the chemical and biological sides of the project and must be fluent in English. Joining the SNI PhD school provides access to a vibrant community of around 30 scientists across nanophysics, material science, biochemistry, cell biology and medical research.
