The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is looking for a Communications Specialist to join its Humanitarian Response Division (HRD) in Geneva. UNFPA leads global efforts to ensure safe pregnancies, childbirth and the fulfilment of young people's potential, working toward the Sustainable Development Goals and the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development. In this position you will help harmonise the agency's humanitarian messaging, raise the profile of UNFPA's emergency work and improve media outputs during crises. Daily tasks include coordinating the Global Humanitarian Action Overview, checking the quality of flash updates, situation reports and other public documents, and gathering compelling field stories together with the Global Emergency Response Team. You will also consolidate inputs for the humanitarian section of the Annual Report, maintain information‑management systems, draft briefs and updates for donors and other audiences, and support the organisation of round‑table events and launches. Representation in external forums such as the IASC Communication and Advocacy Group and internal publication committees is part of the role. The post requires an advanced university degree in International Relations, Communication, Media or Social Sciences and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian communication with an international organisation. Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset. Candidates must be able to work independently, take initiative, multitask and demonstrate strong analytical and writing abilities in English. Additional strengths that will be valued include frontline emergency exposure, the ability to spot and exploit visibility opportunities for humanitarian work, experience handling risks to the agency's image, and skills in photography, videography, social‑media storytelling, public‑event planning and the use of office software, web‑based management systems and multimedia design tools. Familiarity with the UN humanitarian system and a collaborative approach with country, regional and headquarters offices are also advantageous.
