Non-Member State Postdoc Fellowship Programme (Theoretical Physics)

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, operates the world’s most powerful scientific instruments to explore the fundamental particles and forces that shape the universe. Within this environment, the Non‑Member State Postdoc Fellowship Programme in Theoretical Physics offers two highly competitive fellowships each year, each initially lasting two years with the possibility of a third‑year extension. To be eligible, candidates must not hold citizenship of any CERN Member or Associated State. Applicants need a doctorate in theoretical physics (or a defended PhD scheduled before the start date) and must have accumulated no more than six years of post‑doctoral research experience. Current CERN staff are excluded from consideration. The application package must include a curriculum vitae, the most recent qualification, a research‑interest statement, and three up‑to‑date recommendation letters. Successful fellows receive a 24‑month contract, potentially extendable to 36 months, with a net monthly stipend between 6,911 and 7,326 Swiss francs. The package also comprises comprehensive health coverage for the fellow and dependents, pension fund membership, and, depending on personal circumstances, allowances for installation, family, children, infants, as well as travel to Geneva. Paid leave amounts to 2.5 days per month. The position is based at CERN’s Geneva site, offering the chance to work alongside an international community of physicists and engineers dedicated to advancing fundamental science. Applications must be submitted by 3 November 2025, with all required documents uploaded in PDF format before the deadline.
