Mechanical Engineer – Power Electronics Packaging, RIVR

RIVR, an Amazon‑owned venture, is creating "Physical AI" by fielding autonomous robots that deliver packages to customers' doorsteps. The company builds the entire technology stack, from software algorithms to the hardware that powers the robots, to ensure safety, reliability and a seamless customer experience in complex urban settings. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the full mechanical architecture of the robots' power distribution boards and control electronics. This includes conceiving and refining electronic enclosures, developing thermal‑management solutions, and designing the complete wiring harness. The role also requires performing structural, thermal and fluid analyses, defining validation tests, troubleshooting issues, and producing detailed 2‑D drawings that enable smooth hand‑off to manufacturing. Close collaboration with suppliers and the manufacturing team is essential to guarantee that parts are designed for easy fabrication and assembly. The position demands extensive hands‑on experience in electro‑mechanical design. Candidates must have at least six years designing electronic enclosures and wire harnesses for mobile platforms, be fluent in major CAD packages such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX or CATIA, and be comfortable using simulation tools like Ansys or COMSOL. A solid grasp of mechanical fundamentals, heat transfer, structural integrity, material selection, fluid dynamics and GD&T, is required, as is proven ability to transition prototypes into high‑volume production using processes such as die‑casting, injection molding, compression molding, thixomolding, progressive stamping or extrusion. Familiarity with PLM systems, material science for enclosures, gaskets and grommets, and the creation of test plans with root‑cause analysis is also essential. A bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a comparable field rounds out the mandatory qualifications. Additional assets include experience in harness design and routing, the ability to work directly with electrical engineers to choose suitable connectors, terminals and wire gauges, and the skill to produce 2‑D harness layouts and pin‑out documentation.
