A senior compiler engineer is needed by an early‑stage deep‑tech firm in Zurich that is creating a new computing architecture for heavy‑weight workloads. The company focuses on a proprietary hardware platform and seeks a technical leader to shape its compiler and software ecosystem. Day‑to‑day duties involve architecting and implementing a compiler stack tailored to the novel hardware, constructing intermediate representations, designing passes and lowering pipelines, and adding hardware‑aware optimisations. The role also requires translating high‑level workloads into efficient code, collaborating closely with founders and hardware engineers on co‑design, and defining interfaces between compiler, runtime and architecture layers. Profiling, benchmarking and debugging generated code are part of the routine, as is contributing to engineering standards and the technical roadmap. The ideal candidate brings extensive modern C++ expertise and a proven track record in compiler engineering using LLVM, MLIR or comparable infrastructures. A solid grasp of intermediate representations, compiler passes, lowering mechanisms and optimisation techniques is essential. Prior experience working close to hardware, whether targeting processors, accelerators or custom silicon, is required, as is the capacity to work autonomously in a rapid, early‑stage environment and a desire to own and build the platform from scratch. The position is based in Zurich but remote work across Europe is acceptable, offering flexibility for candidates throughout the continent. Joining the founding team provides a rare chance to influence both the compiler and the underlying architecture directly. Experience with GPUs, NPUs, DSPs, FPGAs or other specialised accelerators would be especially valuable.
