Operative Purchaser

WinGD, a leading designer of two‑stroke marine engines headquartered in Winterthur, Switzerland, is dedicated to driving sustainability across the global shipping sector. The company, with roots dating back to 1893, seeks an Operative Purchaser to join its diverse workforce of more than 420 professionals from over 25 nationalities. In this position the daily work revolves around acquiring both stocked and on‑demand materials and services. The holder will track purchase requisitions, ensure a swift PR‑to‑PO conversion, and follow up on order confirmations and delivery schedules. Acting as the primary liaison for suppliers, the role includes reviewing and approving invoices, managing customer claims, non‑conformities and warranty issues, and contributing to supplier performance and delivery reliability metrics. Collaboration with material planners, 4PL partners and the strategic purchasing team is essential, as is handling RFQs, negotiating spot purchases within set guidelines, and guiding an apprentice through routine tasks. Applicants must have completed a Swiss vocational training (EFZ) and preferably hold additional certification as a purchasing specialist or technical merchant, or a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, ideally complemented by mechanical engineering knowledge. Several years of experience in operational purchasing or material planning, a solid grasp of the PR‑PO‑GR‑IR cycle, and fluency in both English and German are required. Proficiency with SAP (preferably S/4HANA) and the Microsoft Office suite, a technical understanding, high commitment, self‑motivation, teamwork, flexibility and resilience under pressure are also mandatory.
