Staff Engineer, Drug Substance, MSAT

Vaxcyte, a clinical‑stage vaccine innovation company focused on high‑fidelity vaccines against serious bacterial diseases, is seeking a Staff Engineer for Drug Substance within its Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) group. The role will be based in Visp, Switzerland, and will support conjugation manufacturing from commercial readiness through process validation and ongoing production at contract manufacturing organizations. The incumbent will collaborate across program management, process development, quality, regulatory and supply functions to ensure GMP manufacture of protein‑polysaccharide conjugate drug substances. Daily tasks include applying statistical methods such as design of experiments, capability analysis and control‑chart trending, overseeing CMO partners for validation and commercial campaigns, and leading investigations, CAPAs and continuous‑improvement initiatives. The engineer will also contribute to technology transfer, equipment qualification, documentation, regulatory submissions and may present findings internally or at scientific meetings. Required qualifications are a PhD in bio‑ or chemical engineering, microbiology, chemistry or biochemistry with at least nine years of relevant pharma/biotech experience, or a master’s degree in the same fields with a minimum of twelve years. Candidates must demonstrate strong quantitative abilities, proficiency in statistical thinking and data visualization, and experience in vaccine manufacturing processes, particularly molecule activation and bioconjugation.
