Mechanical Engineer - Airframe

Harmattan AI builds next‑generation autonomous defence systems and has recently closed a $200 million Series B round that values the company at $1.4 billion. The Mechanical Engineer will join the Airframe team, contributing to the design of unmanned‑air‑vehicle (UAV) platforms that support mission‑critical capabilities for allied forces. In this role you will create and prototype UAV airframes and related subsystems, balancing durability, efficiency and performance. You will own projects from early concept through to production, handling system‑level constraints such as thermal management, mass budget, cost and environmental sealing. Close collaboration with electrical, software and industrialisation groups ensures mechanical integration of sensors, payloads and electronics. You will run stress and failure tests, develop risk‑mitigation tools (test benches, calculation sheets or scripts), and manage delivery packages and technical specifications under tight deadlines. The position also requires you to work directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers, focusing on plastic injection moulding and precision machining, while keeping all design and production data up‑to‑date in Confluence. The employer expects a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline. You must have proven experience designing and prototyping mechanical systems, preferably in UAVs, robotics or defence contexts. Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks is required, as is a solid grasp of high‑precision machining and plastic injection moulding processes. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for documenting complex concepts and leading cross‑functional discussions. Experience with structural and thermal analysis tools (FEA) is a strong advantage, as is the ability to create custom validation tools and scripts.
