In this position you will join LabOS, the internal platform that orchestrates every step of an experiment, from scheduling to data capture and result analysis. Your daily work will involve designing real‑time APIs that expose lab status to scientists and AI agents, building custom AI‑powered tools that automate decision‑making throughout the experiment lifecycle, converting proprietary hardware into programmable interfaces, and creating scheduling systems that manage dozens of instruments with intricate dependencies. You will own sizable portions of the product and see your code run on physical devices. We are looking for engineers with solid full‑stack production experience, comfortable moving across the stack that includes TypeScript, React, Node, and Postgres. You should have a strong product instinct, demonstrated by shipping features, observing user feedback, iterating, and releasing again. The role demands comfort with ambiguity: you start from a goal rather than a detailed specification, break problems into manageable pieces, decide what to build, and draft your own plan when guidance is sparse. Frequent use of AI tools is expected, and you should already know how to apply them effectively. A genuine curiosity about biology is a plus, while no formal background is required, enthusiasm for running real experiments in a lab setting will help you thrive. The team is small, giving each engineer a large impact on the direction and execution of the platform.
