CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is looking for a Mechanical Technician to support its R&D programme on high‑temperature superconducting magnets. The role sits within a multidisciplinary team that designs, builds and tests superconducting coils and the tooling needed for future accelerator magnets. On a daily basis the technician will fabricate and assemble magnet prototypes, produce superconducting coil structures, and machine mechanical parts using milling, turning and forming processes. They will also keep track of component inventories, issue manufacturing requests, carry out acceptance tests, and generate the required production and quality‑control paperwork, including procedures, test reports and traceability records. In addition, they will create 2‑D and 3‑D CAD drawings from existing models. The position requires a technical certificate or secondary education in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable field, together with practical experience in the mechanical manufacturing and assembly of electromechanical equipment. Candidates must be familiar with conventional machining, be able to prepare and use quality documentation, and read mechanical drawings that follow ISO‑GPS dimensioning and tolerancing. Fluency in spoken and written English or French is essential, and a valid driving licence is mandatory. Experience with superconducting systems and proficiency in mechanical CAD tools, particularly CATIA, are considered advantageous. The job is fully onsite, involves a 40‑hour work week, and may include work in radiation‑controlled zones or underground installations. The team values collaboration, accountability, flexibility and clear communication, offering a diverse and inclusive environment where scientific curiosity is encouraged. What the role asks for: - Technical certificate or secondary education in Mechanical Engineering - Hands‑on experience in mechanical manufacturing and assembly - Experience preparing quality documentation and test reports - Ability to read ISO‑GPS mechanical drawings - Spoken and written English or French - Valid driving licence - Experience with superconducting systems (nice-to-have) - Proficiency in CATIA or other mechanical CAD tools (nice-to-have)
