Ypsomed is a company that focuses on medical devices. The Patent Expert will be responsible for helping to gather inventions and draft new patent applications. They will also handle the filing of design applications for new platform injection devices. The role involves managing the patent prosecution process, including responding to office actions from the European Patent Office (EPO) and guiding non-EPO associates in preparing responses for other jurisdictions. The expert will oversee a patent portfolio and its associated deadlines, working closely with the IP team. They will also clear Freedom to Operate (FTO) risks for products and projects, and communicate closely with relevant stakeholders. The role includes identifying and drafting oppositions and appeals, and defending the company against third-party oppositions. The expert will support IP enforcement, conflicts, and litigation, collaborating with in-house and outside counsels to develop strategies, gather evidence, and advise stakeholders. Additionally, the expert will execute new IP strategies and explore AI-assisted methods for patent filing and prosecution. The ideal candidate will have an Engineering or Scientific degree and a strong interest in science and technology. They should have at least two years of experience working as a patent attorney, either in private practice or in-house. Experience representing clients or employers directly before the EPO, or supporting such activities, is essential. Familiarity with AI-assisted patent drafting, search, and prosecution tools is required. Technical experience in medical devices is beneficial. Knowledge of patent laws, regulations, practices, and procedures in Europe, the US, and China is desirable. Fluency in English (C1) is mandatory, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of German or Mandarin (B2) is an asset.
