Senior Mechanical Engineer

IonQ, the leading quantum‑computing platform listed on the NYSE, builds integrated solutions for computing, networking, sensing and security, and its newest system, IonQ Tempo, powers customers such as AWS, AstraZeneca and others. The company is looking for a senior mechanical engineer to join its research‑and‑development group in Geneva, where the focus is on creating the mechanical enclosures and subsystems that house the optical and electronic parts of its quantum products. In this hands‑on position you will own the mechanical design lifecycle from early prototype through to full‑scale production. Daily tasks include producing 3‑D CAD models and documentation, performing engineering calculations and simulations, and carrying out physical tests to verify thermal dissipation and structural performance. You will work closely with optical, electronic and system engineers to refine interfaces and block specifications, and you will coordinate with external suppliers to prototype and manufacture components efficiently. The role also involves improving design practices, championing a rigorous engineering mindset, and acting as the mechanical subject‑matter expert across several projects. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, microtechnology or a comparable field, and brings at least five years of experience in mechanical design and product development. Proven hands‑on work with sheet‑metal or machined parts and the ability to devise thermal management solutions for compact systems are required. Experience with cryogenic environments is advantageous. The applicant must be organized, proactive, capable of independent work, and fluent in English; French language skills are a plus. Knowledge of relevant standards such as EMC and electrical safety is also expected.
