Senior Electronics Engineer – Functional Safety

RIVR, an Amazon company, is developing autonomous robots for real-world doorstep delivery, focusing on safety, reliability, and customer experience. The Senior Electronics Engineer, Functional Safety will lead the hardware-level Functional Safety design for the robots' custom electronics. The main day-to-day responsibilities include designing fault-tolerant circuits for safety-critical subsystems, implementing hardware diagnostics, and ensuring safe-state mechanisms. This role involves creating and maintaining Functional Safety documentation, performing quantitative reliability analysis, and collaborating with various engineering teams to integrate safety functions into the robot design. To excel in this role, candidates must have experience in designing fault-tolerant circuits and implementing safety architectures. Proficiency in performing FMEDA, building Reliability Block Diagrams, and computing SIL metrics is essential. Knowledge of Common-Cause Failure mitigation techniques and the ability to select and derate components based on failure rate data are also required. Nice-to-have skills include the ability to advise system architects on hardware safety constraints and review PCB layouts for safety compliance.
