The ECVN Neurology Residency Training Program in Bern is a specialized role within the University of Bern (UniBE). UniBE is known for its central location and easy-to-reach sites, offering a comprehensive and supportive environment for veterinary professionals. The program focuses on advanced neurology training, with residents working closely with two neurologists and a team of European and American specialist clinicians across various disciplines. The main day-to-day responsibilities include providing daily patient care, consultations, and performing diagnostic procedures and neurosurgeries under supervision. Residents will also participate in weekly neurology journal and book clubs, as well as radiology and neuropathology rounds. Clinical teaching of students and interns is a key part of the role, along with participation in emergency "out-of-hours" duty. Additionally, residents will have the opportunity to complete the required ECVN credentials, including clinical rotations in related specialties and conducting their own residency research project. To qualify for this role, candidates must hold a veterinary degree and have at least two years of general practice experience or have completed a rotating or specialty internship. Proficiency in English, German, and French is required, with a basic knowledge of the third language and a commitment to further improve. Some exposure to neurology is ideal but not mandatory. Nice-to-have skills include a readiness to join emergency duty coverage, teaching, and academic activities. The location in Bern offers a supportive, international environment for both clinical and academic development, with access to advanced diagnostic and neurosurgical equipment. The program provides a well-balanced mix of clinical and off-clinic time, including 6 weeks of holidays to enjoy Switzerland's natural beauty and recreational activities.
