ANYbotics, a Zurich‑based spin‑out from ETH, builds autonomous mobile robots called ANYmal for inspection tasks in sectors such as energy, chemicals and mining. The company employs over 200 engineers and is expanding its Industrialization team, which converts prototype robots into products that can be manufactured, tested and shipped at scale. The internship offers a chance to work alongside world‑class experts on the software side of this production pipeline. In this role you will create and maintain Python‑driven automated test suites for the hardware subsystems of ANYmal. Your code will connect to sensors, cameras and other devices, define reliable pass/fail criteria, and run the tests on the factory floor. You will work closely with manufacturing engineers, test technicians and hardware designers to improve testing workflows, write clear documentation, and ensure that test procedures are reproducible and robust. The position requires you to be currently studying, or have just finished, a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. You must have a solid foundation in Python and have built projects that communicate with hardware, sensors or external APIs. Practical experience with hardware interfaces from labs, projects or personal builds is essential, as is a methodical approach to problem solving and an interest in measurement concepts such as tolerances and repeatability. Strong written and spoken communication skills, a proactive attitude toward learning, and the willingness to work on‑site in Zurich are also mandatory. Applicants need a university enrollment (or a mandatory‑internship letter for non‑EU candidates) and must hold a residence permit for Switzerland where required. Additional assets include familiarity with ROS/ROS2, basic image‑processing knowledge using OpenCV, exposure to sensor calibration (IMU, camera intrinsics/extrinsics, depth or thermal), experience with Docker or devcontainer setups, and participation in student engineering teams like Formula Student, Swissloop or ARIS Rocketry. The internship runs for six months, starts on the first of any month, and is a full‑time, on‑site commitment with a monthly stipend of 3,000 CHF. The environment is fast‑paced, interdisciplinary, and offers mentorship, hands‑on work with advanced locomotion software, and the possibility of future full‑time employment. What the role asks for: - Currently pursuing or recently completed BSc/MSc in relevant engineering field - Strong Python programming skills for hardware interaction - Hands‑on experience with hardware interfaces - Structured problem‑solving and interest in measurement fundamentals - Excellent written and verbal communication abilities - Proactive learning attitude in a production setting - Willingness to relocate to Zurich and work onsite - University enrollment (mandatory internship) - Residence permit for Switzerland (if required) - Experience with ROS or ROS2 (nice‑to‑have) - Basic OpenCV image‑processing knowledge (nice‑to‑have) - Exposure to sensor calibration techniques (nice‑to‑have) - Familiarity with Docker or devcontainer environments (nice‑to‑have) - Participation in student engineering teams (nice‑to‑have)
