Voltiris, an award‑winning start‑up based in Lausanne, creates solar panels that turn the unused portion of sunlight in agricultural greenhouses into electricity, helping to lower the carbon impact of food production. The company is expanding its agrivoltaic installations throughout Europe and looks for a Mechanical Engineer Intern (or working student) to guarantee that every site is ready for deployment. In this position you will sit inside the Operations – Installation squad and become the point person for installation readiness. Your daily tasks involve constructing and updating 3‑D models of mounting structures and site‑specific adaptations, then cross‑checking those models and the bill of materials against the physical parts. You will draft and maintain pre‑installation checklists, run mock assemblies in the workshop, and organise the kitting process so that field crews never encounter missing items. When a crew reports a problem on site, you will analyse the cause, adjust the CAD data, BOM or checklist, and close the loop with the installers. The role demands solid proficiency with a CAD package such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360, the ability to interpret mechanical drawings and basic electrical schematics, and proven hands‑on building experience (for example a race car, boat, robot or similar project). Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently completed a mechanical, electrical or systems engineering programme at a university comparable to EPFL, and must communicate fluently in English at a professional level. A mindset oriented toward checklists, sequencing and anticipating failure modes, as well as the capacity to work independently while collaborating closely with field teams, is essential. Additional advantages include speaking French, Dutch or Polish, holding a valid driver’s licence, and being comfortable with occasional travel to installation sites around Switzerland and beyond. The internship offers genuine ownership of a critical operational step, rapid feedback from live projects, and direct interaction with the Director of Installations & Maintenance. The position is located in the Lausanne/Vaud region and can be taken as a full‑time internship or a working‑student role. What the role asks for: - Proficient CAD modelling (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar) - Ability to read mechanical and basic electrical drawings - Demonstrated hands‑on construction experience - Engineering student or recent graduate (mechanical/electrical/systems) - Professional fluency in English - Strong checklist and sequence planning mindset - Experience with workshop or field verification of parts - Autonomous and detail‑oriented work style - French, Dutch or Polish language skills (nice‑to‑have) - Valid driver’s licence (nice‑to‑have)
