CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is seeking a Transport and Handling Specialist for its Engineering Department. The role sits in the Transport and Handling Engineering Group (EN‑THE) and, more specifically, within the Heavy Handling (EN‑HE‑HH) Section, which is tasked with organising and supervising the movement and lifting of equipment, materials and hazardous items across CERN's accelerator complex, experimental sites and surface facilities. The specialist will coordinate transport and handling activities, arrange technical and resource‑planning meetings, evaluate and propose handling solutions, and define safety and technical specifications for moving dangerous goods in line with ADR regulations. They will develop work procedures and contract documents, oversee contractor work on‑site, ensure safety in both conventional and radioactive environments, and work closely with the EN‑THE design office and Radiation Protection Services to create custom handling tools and radiological work permits. Additional duties include performing specialised handling tasks when required. Key qualifications and experience required are a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in logistics, mechanics, electromechanics or a related discipline, extensive experience in heavy handling and transport operations, proven expertise in worksite logistics and technical contract supervision, fluency in spoken and written English, a commitment to learn French, a valid driving licence, and the ability to take part in regular stand‑by duty covering nights, Sundays and official holidays. Beneficial but not mandatory assets include an ADR certificate, licences for operating overhead travelling cranes, industrial trucks and mobile elevating platforms, prior work in radioactive environments, and basic knowledge of remote‑handling systems. The position is fully onsite at CERN, involves shift work and stand‑by duties as needed, and offers a five‑year limited‑duration contract with the possibility of extension, a tax‑free salary, 30 days of paid leave, comprehensive health insurance and pension benefits, as well as family allowances.
