BASEL OFFICE - Nautical Scheduler

Viking, a worldwide leader in experiential travel operating more than a hundred vessels across rivers, oceans and continents, is looking for a Nautical Scheduler to join its Basel office. The position supports the company’s mission to deliver thoughtful journeys by ensuring crew rosters are planned, compliant and dependable for the ships under its care. Each day the scheduler builds and refreshes short, medium and long range crew plans, making sure licences, certifications, rest periods and training requirements are all covered. They act as the hub linking operations, management, human resources and other internal groups, sharing timetable updates, handling queries and guaranteeing smooth hand‑overs. Using Viking’s proprietary planning software and advanced spreadsheet techniques, they keep data precise, version‑controlled and ready for reporting, while also monitoring legal and fatigue‑related rules and preparing for audits. When unexpected absences or disruptions arise, they devise backup arrangements and flag any staffing shortfalls to senior planners. The role requires proven experience in scheduling, planning or coordinating activities, preferably within maritime, river‑cruise or similarly regulated sectors. Candidates should possess solid knowledge of labour and working‑time regulations, and hold a university‑level background in operations, logistics, engineering, business or a related discipline. Mastery of Excel‑type tools, familiarity with scheduling systems, meticulous attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly under pressure are essential. Applicants must be authorised to work in Switzerland or hold a valid permit.
