IonQ, Inc. is a leading quantum‑technology provider that builds integrated quantum computers, networking, sensing and security solutions for a range of industries. The company's headquarters are in College Park, Maryland, with additional sites across the United States, Europe and Asia. The opening is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will join the research‑and‑development group located in Geneva, Switzerland, contributing to the creation of mechanical enclosures and subsystems that house the optical and electronic hardware of IonQ's quantum products. In this hands‑on position the engineer will take charge of mechanical concepts from early prototype stages through to full‑scale production. Core duties include generating three‑dimensional CAD models, producing detailed documentation, performing engineering calculations and running simulations to verify thermal behaviour and structural integrity. The role also requires building and testing physical assemblies, validating heat‑dissipation performance, and ensuring that designs meet dimensional, thermal and manufacturability criteria, especially for demanding environments such as cryogenic systems. Close collaboration with optical, electronic and system engineers, as well as external suppliers, is essential to optimise interfaces, drive thermal‑management strategies and streamline part fabrication. The candidate must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Microtechnology or a comparable field, and bring at least five years of experience in mechanical design and product development. Proven expertise in working with sheet‑metal and/or machined components is required, together with a solid ability to devise thermal‑dissipation solutions for compact devices. The applicant must be familiar with relevant standards and compliance rules, and be fluent in English. A rigorous, organised and proactive work style, combined with strong communication skills, is also expected. Experience with cryogenic systems is regarded as an advantage, and proficiency in French is considered a plus. The role sits within a multidisciplinary, Agile‑oriented team that values continuous improvement of design practices and encourages senior engineers to act as mechanical subject‑matter experts across multiple projects. Geneva offers a vibrant international setting, and the position provides the opportunity to influence the development of cutting‑edge quantum hardware from prototype to market‑ready product. What the role asks for: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Microtechnology - Minimum five years of mechanical design and product development experience - Hands‑on experience with sheet‑metal or machined part design - Ability to create thermal‑dissipation solutions for compact systems - Knowledge of applicable norms and compliance requirements - Fluency in English - Familiarity with cryogenic systems (nice‑to‑have) - French language proficiency (nice‑to‑have)
