The role of Mediation Support Program Officer in the 'Mediation Support Project' (MSP) involves working with the Think Tank of the Center for Security Studies, which bridges academia and practitioners in security policy. The MSP, a collaboration between the CSS ETH Zurich, swisspeace, and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, aims to enhance Swiss and international mediation efforts. The main day-to-day responsibilities include knowledge management and applied research in mediation, designing and delivering training programs, supporting mediation networks, conducting conflict analysis, and coordinating various MSP activities. The role also involves organizing events, managing program tasks, and training future mediators and peace practitioners. Additionally, the officer will support dialogue, negotiation, and mediation activities in conflict contexts. To qualify, candidates must have a relevant MA degree in Social Sciences or Humanities, such as peace and conflict studies, political science, sociology, or anthropology. A minimum of three years of experience in mediation, project management, or applied research in the peace and conflict field is required. Experience in conflict-affected contexts and concrete mediation process support is essential. Candidates should also have experience in writing, publishing, and editing applied research, as well as work experience in international organizations, NGOs, or think tanks related to mediation. Nice-to-have skills include strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal abilities, a curious and cooperative personality, and a proactive approach to tasks. The ability to work independently and as part of a team, as well as a willingness to travel to conflict-affected contexts, is also beneficial. Excellent proficiency in English is required, with at least one Swiss national language being a significant plus. Other language skills are beneficial.
