Composite Technician - Airframe

Harmattan AI builds autonomous, scalable defense systems for allied forces and has recently secured a $200 million Series B round that values the company at $1.4 billion. As a Composite Technician on the Airframe team you will be responsible for turning engineers’ CAD concepts into flight‑worthy carbon structures, handling everything from mould creation to final quality‑checked parts while keeping cycles short and efficient. Your daily work revolves around rapid in‑house prototyping of carbon and glass‑fibre components, selecting the quickest viable method rather than investing in heavy tooling. You will design and fabricate fixtures, adapters and simple structural pieces, maintain and polish moulds, and manage the workshop’s consumables and inventory. Interpreting 2D/3D drawings and ply books, you will produce and update manufacturing drawings, write clear fabrication procedures on Confluence, and support assembly and mechanical testing by preparing test coupons. Training production operators and ensuring repeatable processes are also key parts of the role. The position requires a technical diploma or degree in composites, mechanical or aerospace manufacturing, industrial technology, or comparable hands‑on experience. You must have proven ability in fast composite prototyping—including hand lay‑up, vacuum bagging, infusion or prepreg—and be comfortable with mould making and surface preparation. Competence in reading technical drawings, controlling lay‑up parameters, and generating 2D manufacturing plans is essential, as is familiarity with design‑for‑manufacturing principles for both injection‑molded and composite parts. Proficiency with hand tools, bench equipment, 3D printers, basic machining, and CAD software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks or FreeCAD is also required. Ideal candidates are highly autonomous, resourceful and able to devise pragmatic solutions under minimal supervision. Strong communication skills for writing procedures and training staff, a rigorous approach to safety and documentation, and a willingness to propose process improvements round out the profile.
