Senior Director of Engineering

Its flagship product, the Canton Network, is a blockchain built for institutional finance, combining privacy, compliance and scalability to enable real‑time settlement across asset classes. The company is headquartered in New York City and operates from offices in London, Zurich, Budapest, Hong Kong and Sydney. The Senior Director of Engineering will sit in Zurich and report directly to the CTO, acting as the operational engine that turns technical strategy into reliable, market‑ready software. In this role you will own the full delivery pipeline. You will design and run engineering planning, translate stakeholder priorities into clear, trackable road‑maps, and guarantee that releases reach customers on schedule and with high quality. You will keep the front‑end and back‑end services available and reliable, produce regular operational reports for transparency, and proactively manage risks before they affect timelines or clients. People responsibilities include scaling the global engineering workforce, defining career‑progression frameworks, coaching managers and directors, and resolving team‑dynamic issues to maintain a collaborative, high‑accountability culture. You will also supervise the tooling and infrastructure stack, manage the engineering budget, including cloud spend, travel and vendor contracts, and uphold a strong security posture for the world's largest financial institutions. The position requires extensive leadership experience. Candidates must have at least twelve years in software engineering, with a minimum of five years in senior leadership roles such as Director, Senior Director, VP or CTO, overseeing multidisciplinary, globally distributed teams of fifty or more. A proven record of professionalising engineering organisations, instituting consistent planning processes and delivering complex, multi‑stakeholder projects on time is essential. The ideal applicant brings deep technical credibility, able to converse as a peer with top‑tier engineers and architects, and possesses familiarity with functional programming, distributed systems or critical financial software. Demonstrated success delivering software in regulated, security‑sensitive environments is also mandatory.
