The LHCb experiment at CERN is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Technical Coordination section. Working inside the LHCb design office, you will help create and refine CAD models of the detector, supporting the development of digital mock‑ups and twin technologies that aid installation, maintenance and future operation of the experiment. Your daily work will involve shaping the conceptual design of mechanical subsystems and turning physicists' and engineers' requirements into concrete engineering solutions. You will generate technical specifications, 3‑D models and detailed manufacturing drawings, and you will assist with the production, assembly, testing and installation of hardware components. The position requires a recent graduate (maximum two years of professional experience) holding a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, and you must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate State. Proven ability to collaborate in an international, multidisciplinary team is essential, as are strong 3‑D CAD modelling and 2‑D drafting skills (preferably with CATIA V5 or an equivalent system). You need solid knowledge of mechanical drawing standards, dimensioning, tolerancing (ISO GPS), materials and manufacturing processes, and you must be fluent in spoken and written English or French with a willingness to learn the other language. Familiarity with CATIA V5, PDM/PLM environments, machining, assembly, testing, 3‑D scanning, reverse engineering, digital‑twin concepts, basic JavaScript or Python programming, and 3‑D web visualisation tools such as Three.js, WebGL or glTF is considered advantageous. The role is based at CERN, offering the chance to work alongside world‑leading physicists and engineers in a highly collaborative environment. What the role asks for: - National of a CERN Member or Associate State - Maximum two years professional experience since graduation - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field - Ability to work in an international multidisciplinary team - 3‑D CAD modelling and 2‑D drafting skills (CATIA V5 or equivalent) - Knowledge of ISO GPS drawing standards, dimensioning, tolerancing, materials and manufacturing processes - Fluent English or French, willing to learn the other language - Nice‑to‑have: familiarity with CATIA V5, PDM/PLM environments and digital‑twin concepts
