The Mechanical Engineer - Structural Design role involves designing and developing electro-mechanical assemblies, robotic payloads, and actuators for RIVR's robots. This includes building and testing prototypes to evaluate functionality and performance, as well as integrating printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) into mechanical structures. The role also requires performing rigorous testing to verify the reliability, durability, and safety of the robotic hardware. Additionally, the engineer will create detailed hardware documentation, including specifications, assembly instructions, and testing protocols. To excel in this role, candidates must have a Master's degree or higher in a relevant field such as Engineering, Robotics, Automotive, or Aerospace. A minimum of five years of industry or research experience is required, with PhD experience being applicable. Proficiency in CAD software for mechanical design and a deep understanding of actuators, motors, materials, design for manufacturing, power transmission, mechanisms, and contemporary manufacturing technologies are essential. Strong leadership skills in managing teams, contractors, and relationships with OEMs/ODMs, as well as problem-solving skills, are also crucial. Nice-to-have skills include a PhD degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent research experience, familiarity with design for mass production, and experience in the robotic, automotive, aerospace, medical, and consumer electronics sectors. Experience in managing a hardware team and interfacing with control systems and integrating electronics is also beneficial. The role is based in CHE, Zurich, within the Consumer Robotics and Hardware Development teams. What the role asks for: - Master's degree or higher in a relevant field such as Engineering, Robotics, Automotive or Aerospace. - A minimum of five years of industry or research experience, with PhD experience applicable. - Proficient in CAD software for mechanical design. - Deep understanding of actuators, motors, materials, design for manufacturing, power transmission, mechanisms, and contemporary manufacturing technologies. - Demonstrated leadership in managing teams, contractors, and relationships with OEMs/ODMs. - Strong problem-solving skills, adept at debugging and optimizing hardware components. - PhD degree in Engineering, Robotics, Automotive, Aerospace or a similar discipline, or an equivalent amount of research experience (nice to have). - Familiarity with design for mass production (nice to have).
