Site Engineer I

Digital Realty is looking for a Site Engineer I to join the team that keeps its Zurich data centre running smoothly. The position supports the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the facility’s critical electrical and mechanical plant, acting as a bridge between internal groups such as customer service and security, as well as external contractors. The daily routine involves taking charge of maintenance and repair work on complex electromechanical equipment, performing regular inspections, responding to incidents and ensuring service continuity in line with service‑level agreements. The engineer will supervise subcontractors, document actions, participate in shift rotations that cover mornings, afternoons and nights, and contribute to on‑call duties, risk reduction and energy‑saving initiatives. Interaction with engineering leadership and cross‑functional teams is expected to drive procedural improvements and uphold safety standards. Applicants must hold a technical background in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics or a related industrial discipline, preferably backed by a Swiss EFZ diploma or an engineering bachelor’s degree. Two to three years of experience maintaining large‑scale electromechanical systems in a mission‑critical environment is required, with a willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights. Strong English communication (minimum B2) is essential, and German language ability is advantageous. Candidates should be comfortable with troubleshooting, test equipment, maintenance planning, and coordination of external service providers, and possess solid analytical and problem‑solving skills. Additional assets include prior data‑centre exposure, familiarity with building‑management systems, service‑level agreements and energy‑optimization practices. The role offers a collaborative atmosphere in a prominent European hub, with opportunities for professional growth, skill‑building programmes and the chance to influence the performance of a key site within Digital Realty’s global platform.
