Roche's Medicinal Chemistry department in Basel focuses on discovering breakthrough medicines for neuroscience, ophthalmology, rare, infectious and oncological diseases. As a global health‑care leader, Roche combines cutting‑edge research with a culture that values individuality, open dialogue and collaboration, aiming to prevent, stop and cure illnesses for current and future generations. The internship places you directly in the pRED laboratories where you will synthesize novel small‑molecule candidates for active drug‑discovery projects. You will apply modern organic‑synthesis techniques, perform purification steps and generate data that feed the broader discovery pipeline. In parallel, a dedicated tutorial programme will deepen your knowledge of medicinal chemistry, while you sharpen presentation skills by sharing results in talks and poster sessions. We are looking for a high‑performing chemistry student who is on track to achieve a first‑class degree and may continue with PhD research afterwards. Candidates must be enrolled in a Bachelor or Master programme, or have graduated within the past twelve months, and be ready to commit to a full‑time placement lasting six to twelve months. Daily scientific communication is conducted in English, and applicants must be able to provide a CV, a motivation letter, an enrollment certificate (if applicable) and an academic recommendation letter. Non‑EU/EFTA applicants need a university letter confirming that the internship is mandatory and stating its required length, together with the enrollment certificate. The role offers a dynamic, international environment where you will work alongside synthetic organic medicinal chemists within the Therapeutic Modalities, Small Molecule Research (pRED) unit. Basel's state‑of‑the‑art facilities provide a collegial atmosphere for up to twenty interns each year. While fluency in German or French is not required, an active interest in either language is considered a plus. What the role asks for: - Enrolled in Bachelor or Master programme (or graduated ≤12 months) - High‑performing chemistry student aiming for first‑class degree - Full‑time availability for 6–12 months - English proficiency for daily scientific communication - CV, motivation letter, enrollment certificate, academic recommendation letter - Non‑EU/EFTA: university letter confirming mandatory internship and length - Interest in German language (nice‑to‑have) - Interest in French language (nice‑to‑have)
