Assistant Programme Officer, P.1 (Fixed-term - 2 years)

The position of Assistant Programme Officer sits within the Operations Team of the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) Secretariat, a unit of the World Meteorological Organization that supports climate‑related projects in partner nations. Reporting to the Head of Operations, the role works closely with the broader SOFF operations staff. Daily duties involve helping to organise and monitor a set of country‑level programmes financed by SOFF. This includes liaising with implementing partners, peer advisors, national meteorological agencies and the WMO technical authority, updating the operations database, tracking readiness milestones and preparing investment funding requests. The officer also assists in drafting steering‑committee papers, creating analytical presentations, arranging regional workshops and capturing lessons learned from partners. Candidates must hold a master’s degree—or a bachelor’s plus two years of relevant experience—in a field such as environmental science, geography, international relations or business administration. At least one year of progressively responsible work on climate change, climate finance or related research is required, together with strong analytical, writing and presentation abilities and proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of any other UN Meteo Organization official language is a plus. The contract is fixed‑term for two years, funded from extra‑budgetary resources, with a net base salary of US $43,834 and an additional post‑adjustment payment.
