Senior Lead - Footwear Design, Performance Running

As Senior Lead, Footwear Design, Performance Running you will steer the creative vision for On's core running‑shoe category, turning athlete insights and biomechanical data into next‑generation products from concept to production‑ready stage. The role is based in the Zurich studio and sits at the strategic helm of the performance footwear line. Day‑to‑day you will direct the entire design process, from early exploration and sketching through to detailed 3D modelling and prototype creation. You will build and nurture cross‑functional networks with innovation, product strategy and engineering teams, ensuring that technical performance and premium aesthetics are tightly integrated. Mentoring and scaling the design team, you will also craft compelling visual narratives and present concepts to senior leadership, while collaborating with development groups in Zurich and Vietnam to bring ideas to market. The position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design or a related discipline, and at least eight years of experience designing performance footwear for running or sportswear brands. Candidates must provide a portfolio that proves leadership on successful products and demonstrate advanced proficiency with 2D and 3D design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino or Blender. Fluency in English is mandatory, and strong organizational and strategic skills are essential for managing fast‑paced, multi‑season projects. Additional assets include experience with AI‑assisted design tools, deep knowledge of engineered composites, advanced knits and technical textiles, and the ability to thrive in a multicultural, matrix‑structured environment.
