The Biogen Intercontinental Region Medical Lead, Nephrology, will steer the medical direction for Biogen's nephrology portfolio across the BIR region. Biogen is a mid‑sized biotechnology firm that develops and delivers life‑changing medicines worldwide. In this senior role you will act as the bridge between global medical strategy and the specific needs of regional affiliates, shaping plans for pipeline development, launch preparation, evidence generation and ongoing product management. Your daily work will involve crafting and executing a regional medical strategy that reflects affiliate priorities, stakeholder insights and evolving standards of care. You will contribute to clinical development, evidence‑generation programmes, publication planning and lifecycle management, while also leading advisory boards, medical education events and scientific communications. Close partnership with affiliates and cross‑functional teams, including Medical, Commercial, Corporate Affairs and Value & Access, will ensure a unified medical voice and coordinated execution throughout the region. You will spot gaps in evidence, access and patient pathways, propose strategic solutions, and nurture relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare organisations, scientific societies and patient groups to drive regional priorities. The position requires an advanced scientific or medical degree (MD, PhD or PharmD) and at least ten years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sector, preferably with a background in Medical Affairs or medical leadership. Candidates must possess deep expertise in nephrology, a solid understanding of the therapeutic landscape, and a proven record of working across multiple countries or markets at both affiliate and regional levels. Experience designing and delivering Medical Affairs strategies across the product lifecycle, supporting launch readiness, evidence generation and scientific engagement, is essential. The role also demands the ability to translate regional insights into global medical plans, influence a matrixed organization, build productive relationships with external experts, and communicate complex scientific concepts clearly. While the advert does not list specific nice‑to‑have skills, the description highlights the importance of cultural awareness, strategic thinking, strong organizational abilities and the capacity to operate in ambiguous, fast‑changing environments. Biogen emphasizes a collaborative, inclusive culture where individual contributions have a tangible impact, offering opportunities for learning, growth and skill expansion within a supportive, globally‑connected team. What the role asks for: - MD, PhD, or PharmD degree - At least 10 years pharma/biotech experience - Medical Affairs or medical leadership background - Deep nephrology scientific and clinical expertise - Experience across affiliate and regional/global markets - Proven ability to design Medical Affairs strategies for pipeline to launch - Track record in launch readiness, evidence generation, scientific engagement - Skill in converting regional insights into global medical strategy - Strong influence and collaboration in matrix organizations - Established relationships with external medical experts and scientific stakeholders - Excellent scientific communication and presentation abilities
