Assistant General Counsel, Privacy & Data Protection

Intuitive, a global pioneer in robotic‑assisted surgery, seeks an Assistant General Counsel to join its Legal, External Affairs and Privacy group. The role will back the company’s international operations, especially its EMEA businesses, ensuring that the firm’s medical‑device products and services meet the legal and regulatory expectations of the regions it serves. In this senior capacity the lawyer will counsel on all matters related to EMEA privacy statutes, including the GDPR and emerging national rules. Daily duties involve guiding product teams on compliance for new and updated offerings, advising on clinical trials, research, data analytics, collaborations, HR matters, commercial contracts and cybersecurity, and handling data‑subject inquiries. The position also requires shaping global privacy strategies with fellow team members, delivering internal training, and fostering a culture that prioritises data‑protection responsibilities throughout the organization. Candidates must bring at least ten years of experience with privacy legislation, a law degree or JD, a current license to practice, and a CIPP/E certification. Proven ability to advise diverse functional groups on privacy, digital law and AI assessments is essential, as is strong analytical thinking, clear written and spoken communication, and the skill to balance business objectives with legal risk. Fluency in English plus another European language such as French, German, Italian or Spanish is required. Additional credentials that add value include extra data‑privacy certifications, further language fluency, and experience with project‑management or compliance programmes.
