(MD-)PhD Position (Interface of Clinical and Experimental Neurology) - Neurology

The position is a (MD‑)PhD role at the University Hospital Basel (USB), where the focus lies on translational neuroimmunology research related to stroke. The institute combines clinical insight with experimental science to advance understanding of brain‑vascular injury. In this role you will help design and carry out translational projects that explore immune responses after cerebral ischemia. Daily work blends patient‑oriented studies with laboratory techniques such as flow cytometry and epigenetic assays, while you will also process and interpret both clinical and experimental datasets together with a multidisciplinary team. Contributions to peer‑reviewed articles, presentations at international meetings, and involvement in neurology or biomedical teaching activities are also expected. Candidates should hold a master’s degree, preferably in human medicine, neuroscience, biomedicine or a related discipline, and demonstrate a strong interest in translational stroke research. Prior laboratory experience, especially with FACS or epigenetic methods, is advantageous, as is basic competence in data analysis and statistics. Fluency in English is required; German language skills are considered a plus. The ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within an interdisciplinary environment is essential.
