Lead EIC Engineer (100%)

Climeworks is seeking a Lead EIC Engineer to steer the Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls function for its next direct‑air‑capture plant in Alberta. The role anchors the technical direction of the EIC department, shaping global specifications, design philosophies and the basis of design while ensuring that owner requirements are clearly captured and communicated to contractors. Each day the engineer will define and uphold the technical roadmap, craft fit‑for‑purpose EIC specifications and validate design assumptions against safety, operability and local codes. Responsibilities include reviewing and approving contractor submissions for power distribution, control architecture and instrumentation, enforcing owner standards, and guaranteeing schedule, quality and safety compliance. The position also drives reliability and innovation programmes, troubleshoots system issues, evaluates emerging technologies such as smart instrumentation and advanced controls, and serves as the main EIC liaison with process, mechanical and project teams to manage integrated designs and risk. Leadership duties involve coaching junior staff, conducting lessons‑learned sessions and maintaining comprehensive records of technical decisions and vendor data, all while incorporating Alberta’s cold‑weather constraints into design and construction planning. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent qualification and bring at least ten years of experience as an Electrical Controls and Instrumentation Engineer in process‑plant environments, preferably in cold climates. Proven experience leading teams and delivering a full‑cycle project—from FEED through commissioning—in sectors such as mining, water treatment, oil and gas or similar is required, together with deep knowledge of low‑ and medium‑voltage systems, industrial instrumentation and control
