The position of Emergency Response Secretariat (EPP) Analyst is based in Geneva within UNFPA's Global Emergency Response Unit, part of the Humanitarian Response Division. UNFPA leads the United Nations effort to ensure that every pregnancy is intended, each birth is safe, and young people can realise their potential. The analyst works under the direction of the GERU head and provides core assistance for the rollout, monitoring, knowledge handling and reporting of the agency's emergency response policies and procedures. On a daily basis the incumbent aids the coordination between headquarters, regional and country offices when an emergency response is triggered. This includes delivering customized operational help for preparedness and reaction, guaranteeing that organisational guidelines are applied consistently, and managing the start‑up and wind‑down of crisis actions. The role also tracks follow‑up tasks to ensure that all deliverables tied to the emergency procedures are fulfilled on schedule. Specific secretariat duties involve supporting the Crisis Response Team during both activation and de‑activation phases, recording the discussions, and ensuring that agreed actions are pursued. The analyst helps create, refine and circulate tools, templates and guidance documents related to the emergency framework. They also oversee the planning of preparedness measures such as risk assessments and contingency plans, watch that timelines and protocols are respected, and provide technical advice to regional and country teams. Coordination of Level 3 after‑action reviews, as well as support for Level 2 and Level 1 reviews, falls within the remit, with the analyst gathering insights, managing the resulting knowledge and prompting relevant business units to act on corrective recommendations. In addition, the role contributes to building capacity by designing and delivering training on emergency procedures and preparedness standards. It involves gathering and synthesising lessons learned from past responses to improve UNFPA's policies. The analyst is responsible for collecting and analysing response data, ensuring that findings shape future planning, and for drafting regular reports on the status of emergency activations and related activities. Working in Geneva offers the chance to join a multicultural team at the heart of the United Nations system, supporting high‑impact humanitarian work that aligns with UNFPA's strategic goals for 2026‑2029. The position provides exposure to a broad network of stakeholders, opportunities for professional growth within the UN framework, and the ability to influence the effectiveness of global emergency responses.
