UniBE is a dynamic institution focused on delivering top performance and fostering skill development. The SEM lab-manager with teaching responsibilities will oversee the SEM facility, support users, and conduct research. The role involves teaching microbeam analysis theory and practical training at the MSc and PhD levels, as well as assisting users with various SEM-related research tasks, from high-resolution imaging to EBSD and signal mapping. The manager will also handle the maintenance of the SEM facility, including basic servicing and communication with technicians for more complex issues. The day-to-day responsibilities include supporting users with their SEM-related research, maintaining the facility, and conducting independent research projects. This involves securing project funding from research agencies and industry partners. The role is closely tied to the Structural Geology/Tectonics group, requiring a strong background in this field for both research and teaching activities. To qualify, candidates must have a PhD in Earth Sciences or a related discipline, along with a strong theoretical and practical background in scanning electron microscopy, including EDS, EBSD, and CL applications. Teaching experience is essential, as is the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with users and technicians from diverse disciplines. An innovative research proposal and physical presence during core working hours are also required. Nice-to-have skills include German language proficiency, or the ability to reach an advanced level within the evaluation period.
