Senior R&D Engineer (Electro-mechanical-multiphysics)

Sécheron Hasler Group, a Swiss engineering firm with more than a century of experience, supplies high‑power electrical and electronic equipment for railways, renewable‑energy installations, DC and AC networks, and industrial applications. Its Traction Power Systems division creates modern DC and AC traction substations, protection gear, power converters and digital monitoring tools, supporting sustainable mobility worldwide. The company is expanding its Geneva team and seeks a Senior R&D Engineer to advance high‑speed switching devices such as DC circuit breakers, working across the entire product lifecycle from concept to field use. In this position you will join R&D projects that push the limits of medium‑voltage switching technology. Daily tasks involve designing and simulating electrical switching architectures with MATLAB/Simulink and COMSOL Multiphysics, covering electromagnetic, thermal, material‑science and dielectric aspects. You will devise and run prototype test programmes, validate dielectric, thermal and mechanical performance, and cooperate with mechanical, electrical and electronics specialists. Interaction with manufacturing groups to refine material processing and industrialisation, mentoring of junior staff, and contributions to technical roadmaps, patent applications, documentation and IEC/IEEE compliance are also expected. Development and verification of electronic control boards for protection systems form part of the remit. The role requires at least eight years of R&D experience on low‑ or medium‑voltage equipment, a solid grasp of railway protection and modern DC micro‑grids, and fluency in English (French is a strong advantage).
