Forward Deployed Software Engineer - Intern

Flink Robotics, a dynamic startup from ETH Zurich's Computational Robotics Lab, is developing autonomous robots capable of handling a wide range of items, including unfamiliar ones. The company is seeking a Forward Deployed Software Engineer Intern to join their team. This role involves working closely with the field team at customer sites, adapting and troubleshooting the company's autonomy stack to meet the specific conditions of each deployment. The main responsibilities include supporting the testing, tuning, and debugging of the autonomy stack both in the lab and on-site. The intern will also help plan and execute on-site software installations to ensure a smooth handover to customers. Additionally, the role involves diagnosing and fixing software issues remotely and on-site, as well as feeding field data back to the engineering team to enhance models and unlock new use cases. To be successful in this role, candidates must have a degree (completed or in progress) in computer science and strong coding skills in C++. Experience in software troubleshooting and a builder mentality, with the ability to implement algorithms from scratch, are essential. The role requires a proactive, curious, and clear communicator who is fluent in English. German language skills are a strong plus. The ability to travel 50-100% to customer sites and adapt to different teams and fast-changing environments is crucial. Candidates must be Swiss/EU citizens, hold an existing Swiss work permit, or have a degree from a Swiss university, allowing them to work in Switzerland without visa sponsorship. Nice-to-have skills include prior robot deployments and personal/academic robotics software projects.
